Who we are

About Hilvar

A Birmingham-based building services company founded by two qualified engineers with a shared belief — that great work comes from skilled people who genuinely care.

Our story

Built on quality and trust

Hilvar Limited was founded by our team and our team — two experienced engineers who spent years working in the trade and saw a consistent problem: work done poorly, with little communication and unexpected costs.

They set up Hilvar with a simple mission — do the job right, be honest about price, and treat every client's property with the same care they'd want for their own.

Based in Birmingham, Hilvar covers all of England and Wales, serving homeowners, landlords, property managers and commercial businesses. Every job is handled by qualified engineers who take pride in their work.

Domestic pricing guide

Our Pricing

Transparent pricing for domestic clients — so you know what to expect before we attend. No hidden costs, no surprises.

We charge a single hourly rate across all trades — electrical, air conditioning, plumbing and building maintenance. Every callout includes a first hour minimum charge, after which time is billed in 15 minute increments. Where a first-time fix is not possible, we will provide a separate written quote for any follow-up works before proceeding. All prices are exclusive of VAT.

Please note: All prices shown are standard domestic rates and exclude VAT. Parts and materials are charged additionally and always agreed before use. Bank holiday and Christmas/New Year rates are quoted individually (POA). For commercial clients, visit our Commercial & Contracts page.
Call-Out & Emergency Rates

Our call-out rates apply to all trades. Rates vary by location and time of day. All prices are per hour + VAT, with a 1 hour minimum charge. After the first hour, time is charged in 15 minute increments.

How it works: You are charged from the moment our engineer arrives on site to the moment they leave. The first hour is the minimum charge — after that, every additional 15 minutes is charged at a quarter of the applicable hourly rate. All prices are + VAT. All rates are confirmed before attendance. For commercial clients and ongoing contracts, see our Commercial & Contracts page.

We believe in complete transparency. Before we attend and after we leave, you should know exactly what you're paying for and why. Here's everything you need to understand your Hilvar invoice.

💡 VAT — What It Means for You

All prices shown on our Rates tab are exclusive of VAT (ex. VAT). VAT at the standard UK rate of 20% is added on top and shown separately on your invoice. This is a legal requirement for VAT-registered businesses.

If you are VAT-registered yourself, you may be able to reclaim the VAT element. Speak to your accountant for advice on this.

Priority Response

You always deal with our team — the same qualified engineers who know your site, your systems, and your expectations. No strangers, no handoffs.

📋

Repair Schedule

Contract clients benefit from a pre-agreed fixed price repair schedule for common recurring issues. When a listed repair is required, it is automatically approved — no waiting for sign-off, no delay to your operations.

To minimise downtime further, we stock common spare parts on our vehicles and on client sites where agreed — so the repair happens in a single visit.

How it works
  • 1 During onboarding we agree your fixed price repair schedule based on your equipment and property type.
  • 2 Any repair on the schedule is automatically approved — your team can call us directly without needing to raise a purchase order each time.
  • 3 We arrive with the part already on the vehicle. The repair is completed in a single visit and invoiced at the agreed fixed price — no extras.
  • 4 As your contract grows, we expand the schedule to cover more equipment and repair types specific to your sites.

Fill in our contact form or email info@hilvar.co.uk and we'll get back to you promptly. For straightforward callouts we operate on a fixed hourly rate structure — see our Pricing page for details. For follow-up or larger works we'll provide a written quote before proceeding.
For standard work we aim to attend as quickly as possible and will always give you a timescale when you enquire. For emergency callouts we aim to respond as fast as possible — 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Yes — Hilvar Limited carries full public liability and professional indemnity insurance. Copies of our insurance documentation are available on request.
Yes — all work is completed with the relevant documentation as standard. This includes compliance certificates, inspection reports and sign-off paperwork where applicable.
We specialise in electrical fault finding and repairs for domestic and commercial properties. This covers tripping circuits, dead sockets, lighting faults, wiring repairs and consumer unit faults. All work is carried out to BS 7671 (18th Edition).
We cover leak detection and repair, drain clearance, radiator installations and repairs, kitchen plumbing and G3 unvented cylinder work. We do not currently carry out gas boiler or gas appliance work as this requires Gas Safe registration.
An unvented hot water cylinder is a sealed, pressurised hot water system fed directly from the mains. Under Building Regulations Part G, these systems must be serviced annually by a G3-certified engineer. Our engineers are G3 certified and carry out both servicing and installation.
We service and repair most major brands of domestic and commercial air conditioning systems. If you're unsure whether we can help with your specific system, get in touch and we'll let you know.
Yes — we offer both one-off reactive work and ongoing planned maintenance contracts for domestic, landlord and commercial clients. Contact us to discuss what would suit your needs.
Currently we focus on servicing, maintenance and repairs of existing air conditioning systems. We do not currently install brand new systems from scratch.
We charge a single hourly rate across all trades — no per-trade pricing. Every callout includes a minimum first hour charge, after which time is billed in 15-minute increments. Where a first-time fix is not possible, we'll provide a separate written quote for any follow-up works before proceeding. See our Pricing page for full rate details by zone and time of day.
Always. The applicable callout rate is confirmed before we attend. Parts and materials are agreed with you before use and are never added to your invoice without your approval. We never start work without your agreement on cost.
All prices shown on our Pricing page are exclusive of VAT (ex. VAT). VAT at 20% is added on your invoice. So £110 ex. VAT becomes £132 inc. VAT. See our Understanding Your Invoice tab on the Pricing page for a full VAT calculator and invoice breakdown.
We have separate rate bands for Birmingham & West Midlands, wider England, and Wales — reflecting travel. All rates are confirmed before attendance. See our Pricing page for the full rate table.
Yes — our engineers are fully qualified across all the disciplines we work in, including electrical (BS 7671), HVAC, G3 unvented hot water systems, plumbing and air conditioning servicing. Qualification certificates are available on request.
We do not currently hold Gas Safe registration, which means we do not carry out gas boiler installations, servicing or repairs. We do carry out G3 unvented cylinder work and plumbing, which does not require Gas Safe registration.
Yes — all relevant certification is provided on completion of work. For G3 unvented systems a Building Regulations Part G compliance certificate is provided. Other compliance documentation is provided as applicable to the work carried out.
Yes — we offer 24/7 emergency callouts across England and Wales for electrical faults, plumbing emergencies and air conditioning breakdowns. Get in touch via our contact form or email info@hilvar.co.uk and we will respond as quickly as possible.
An emergency is any issue that poses an immediate risk to safety, causes significant damage, or makes a property uninhabitable — such as total power failure, burst pipes, major leaks, or complete loss of heating in extreme weather. If you're unsure, contact us and we'll advise.
Yes — out-of-hours, weekend, overnight and bank holiday rates are higher than standard hours. The applicable rate is always confirmed before we attend. Contract clients receive significantly reduced emergency rates. See our Pricing page for full details.
